This energetic group of SUCO students from the swim team came to the Oneonta Greenway on May 7 as part of the Into the Streets celebration. They were provided with picks, shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows. They were asked to spread mulch on the two mile trail where it had worn thin over the winter. Some of the students moved a post that was too close to the river. The river had eroded the trail at that point. In an amazing show of strength, the Wrestling Team took an enormous log and placed it across the part of the trail that was dangerous due to erosion, effectively blocking the entry to this path and diverting walkers to a safer path.

Thanks to coaches Duane Ritter (Wrestling) and Chris Schuler-Ghiorse (Swimming) for organizing their athletes. Chris Schuler-Ghiorse is shown in the photo above with her daughter.

Donna Vogler, (far right) Chairman of the Biology Department at SUCO, and Steve Andrews, Parks and Rec for the City of Oneonta, planned the day.

This student is wearing the official Into the Streets t shirt. SUCO has held this Into the Streets Day for many years. The students are asked to contribute to the community they live in. About 50 SUCO students came to the Greenway for this event.

(left) Very impressive. This member of the swim team is ready to work.
